Micro Garden Program

The Micro Garden program addresses the disproportionately high rates of food insecurity caused by a lack of access to sufficient fresh, healthy, quality, affordable food for under-represented communities in South Sacramento.

The program provides participants with a comprehensive beginner’s patio garden kit, which includes everything they need to start growing their fruits, vegetables, and herbs, such as seeds, small plants, a container, and a bin. In addition to the gardening kit, participants can attend nutrition and physical activity education classes, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to make healthy choices. Participants also receive dedicated support from program staff and volunteers, ensuring they have the guidance and resources to grow their produce successfully.

The overarching aim of the Micro-garden program is to foster a sense of community and increase access to nutritious food options in vulnerable communities, ultimately promoting the consumption of fruits and vegetables and contributing to improved overall health and well-being.
