Dr. Joyce Dixon Hightower is an inspiring author with a long and varied career as an international medical doctor, a high school science teacher, and a public inspirational speaker. She has written plays and songs, which have resulted in musical albums and stage productions. She has used all of her God-given talents to help people focus on God's love and authority in their everyday lives.
Dr. Lisa Merritt, a board-certified physiatrist, is a leader in her field and a longstanding member of numerous professional organizations. including Emeritus Board Member American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR) founder of the resident’s sections of AAPMR and National Medical Association (NMA), and secretary of the Gulf Coast Medical Society.
My commitment to oppressed groups has appeared in all my interests growing up and as I pursue my current career path. As a writer, my subject matter explored the unjust realities of women, queer and trans people, Black people, immigrants, and poor people. Capturing our struggles, joys, and traditions in written form was my way of solidifying our presence and making our voices heard.
Dr. Ricky Norwood, DNP, MSN, MSBH, RN, FNP-BC, is an Associate Professor for the Master of Science – Nurse Practitioner and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs at the University of San Francisco. Dr. Norwood serves as the Family Nurse Practitioner Program Director at the University of San Francisco and practices Family Medicine in Grass Valley, CA.
Chardè L. Vance is a passionate registered nurse committed to health equity and community advocacy. Starting her career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in post-acute care, Chardè was recognized as a DAISY Award recipient for her contributions to health equity. She recently earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and is a clinical nurse on an adult medical-surgical acute care unit.
Dr. Glenn Middleton is a native of San Francisco, California, and has been a practicing dentist since 1990. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Davis, and his dental training at the University of California, San Francisco.
Dr. Tiffany Mimms is a licensed clinical psychologist, certified life and executive coach, and founder of The Rosetta Center for Counseling and Wellness, Inc. in Sacramento, CA. Inspired by how her grandmother Rosetta gave to her family and community, Dr. Mimms often wondered, “Who supported Grandma?” She created The Rosetta Center as a place where Black women, in particular, would be seen, validated, and encouraged to care for themselves and create meaningful and purposeful lives.
Gianna Bennett, a young aspiring trauma surgeon, has set her sights on a future in medicine from an early age. At just 12 years old, while in the 6th grade, Gianna decided to pursue a career as a trauma surgeon, inspired by her passion for helping others and her deep interest in medicine.
