The students are “exposed” to these role models, individuals who look like the students and may have grown up in similar neighborhoods. These role models build relationships and share stories of their challenges and successes.
These mentorships are not just a part of our program; they are the foundation. They can transform our students' perspectives, opening their eyes to new possibilities and allowing them to dream. They help our students realize that they can become doctors, instilling a sense of optimism and determination.
For the past 11 years, HPMP has sponsored recruiting conferences for more than 500 twelfth-grade under-represented students and their parents to learn about potential medical school, professional healthcare programs, and career and job opportunities from healthcare professionals.
