Next Steps provides individual and group therapy that focuses on the impact of trauma and grief in the African/American community and uses a variety of therapeutic interventions to treat clients. Others include CBT, Solution Focused, Talk Therapy, and DBT.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) will be the primary model for group therapy and will focus on 4 major components (emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness and interpersonal effectiveness) DBT is an evidenced based intervention effective in addressing trauma and grief. The target age group for these services is 18-26 both male and female.
Next Steps also offers individual life coaching services that will assist youth in preparing a concise road map to wellness. Life coaching consists of 1:1 counseling and builds upon skills learned in group, and/or individual therapy.
Community family engagement:
Next Steps offers intermittent pop-up opportunities providing the community with safe places/spaces to share and process trauma and grief. Pop up opportunities can be in person or virtual using social media platforms. These events provide opportunities for informal education around mental health issues and concerns.
